"The British and American experience, now powerfully supported by the Dutch results, tells us convincingly that homebirth and midwives are indeed 'safer than we thought.' Together they offer the safest option. The danger of home as a place of birth does not lie in its threat to the healthy survival of mothers and babies, but in its threat to the healthy survival of obstetricians and obstetric practice." -Diana Korte & Roberta Scaer, A Good Birth, a Safe Birth, Harvard Common Press, 1995
About Me
aerlyn
I am a midwife working in a joint practice in Portland, Oregon. Most of my time seems to be spent palpating blooming bellies and catching babies as they swim into a new universe. I feel honored to be present while these women birth themselves into motherhood. I feel like I am sneaking glimpses of a different world, riding the threshold between life and death, developing deep trust in what it means to give life, to give birth, and to completely surrender. I have been attending births since 1999 and can't imagine stopping!
